Houck threw a sinker to Yankees catcher Kyle Higashioka at Fenway Park throughout a sport between the 2 rivals on June 16. Higashioka swung on the ball, which bounced off his bat proper into Houck’s face. The pitcher collapsed to the bottom and coated his face, which was pouring out blood from his left aspect.
He instantly left the sport and was quickly positioned on the injured record. That line drive had fractured his face, a scary damage that probably may have been a lot worse.
“It’s a part of the sport. Houck advised MLB.com’s Ian Browne after he was injured. “Accidents and unlucky occasions are gonna occur.”
He underwent surgical procedure on June 27 to insert a steel plate in his face, and had abstained from consuming strong meals till early July. However he ultimately started to return to regular, and started a rehab task on August 5. He made his return to the main leagues a number of weeks later in opposition to the Houston Astros on August 22.
Now, Houck is again within the main leagues along with his damage behind him. However he doesn’t neglect that damage, nor does he apparently intend to. He took a 3D mould of his fractured face and positioned it on a series for him to put on. WEEI’s Rob Bradford took photographs of Houck holding up the chain, smiling.
The smile on Houck’s face in Bradford’s photographs means that he has moved on from his damage and has returned to his regular self. The damage definitely doesn’t outline him, however it’s one thing that he’ll keep in mind going ahead with this chain.
