Matt Poitras achieved two desires in 2023: making his NHL debut and taking part in for Workforce Canada within the World Juniors.

Paradoxically, a Geekie brother had a hand in each bucket record gadgets.

On Friday, in a pre-competition WJC sport between Canada and Switzerland, Poitras scored his first purpose in a Workforce Canada sweater. It got here by the use of Conor Geekie, the youthful brother of present Bruin Morgan Geekie.

Poitras is fairly snug taking part in with a Geekie brother. He’s spent fairly a little bit of time on a line with Morgan Geekie within the NHL. In actual fact, Poitras’s first purpose in a Bruins sweater was assisted by Morgan.

One other huge second for the younger and budding star, and one other Geekie brother serving to him get there.

Although Poitras has been a staple of the underside six for Boston this season, he was excited for the chance to take a break from NHL motion and symbolize his nation within the World Juniors.

“As a Canadian you develop up and its type of the dream to play within the World Juniors,” Poitras instructed reporters earlier within the week. “It’s the final probability, can’t return and play subsequent 12 months … it’s a superb alternative to go over there and play.”

Poitras will likely be again within the Black and Gold as soon as he winds up play for Workforce Canada early subsequent 12 months. The WJC bronze and gold medal video games happen on Jan. 5, 2024.
